Expertise round-up: a podcast from me, a webinar from Jon and some promising tech trends for Zapnito customers
Every month, our customers provide invaluable expertise, launch innovative new products, and realise impressive commercial success. Here’s some highlights from this month…
We are particularly excited by the latest site to launch on the Zapnito platform: the H2H Network. It will enable agencies responsible for helping people affected by disasters to be more effective, by connecting them with expertise and services provided by Network members. We’re delighted that the Network has chosen to launch this essential service on Zapnito. See our press release for the full details.
Of course we are delighted with all new launches on Zapnito, and it’s great to see another expert community from Springer Nature go live this month. The Nature Research Device and Materials Engineering Community is the latest in a successful series of research area-specific communities that follow a winning formula of journal paper insights plus editorial commentary plus community contributions.
The OECD Forum Network is a constant source of high-quality contributions from a particularly esteemed community. This inspiring post from the director of the OECD Forum, Anthony Gooch explains how the OECD’s Zapnito-hosted network is a “live virtual space” for the community of people connected to their annual conference to “engage in on a constant basis” and “to come together in a powerful form of international co-operation”. Rousing stuff.

Zapnito could well be considered an open web platform, a tool that (budget-permitting) anyone can use to create great websites, so this
Forbes
article caught our eye as it explains why tech like ours is so critical to publishers (and others) in enabling engagement with their communities. Crucially, it does enable them to deliver social media-type interactions but doesn’t require them to operate within the walled gardens of Facebook and co.
“Building social platforms that exist in the open web and investing in technology that empowers the open web is how publishers can take back control of their own content and build true communities on their own properties, outside of the walled gardens.”
There are a number of interesting insights in the findings of
Publishing Executive’s
survey on the technology that publishers will invest in this year. Zapnito customers won’t be surprised to see that technology for better understanding audiences, for bringing audiences back to their own branded websites, and for monetizing their audiences are all high priority. We’re pleased that Zapnito customers are ahead of the trend!
“Publishers burned by the Duopoly’s hold of the digital ad markets and Facebook’s fickle newsfeed policies want to get their audience back on home turf.”
We enjoyed this super-short listicle from
Digiday
on what’s in and out at Cannes Lions 2018. For all of us not fortunate enough to attend, this fun post is surprisingly informative and a great example of how content can be fun, super-short and still valuable.
“In: pretending to understand blockchain. Out: pretending to understand machine learning.”
