Customer Highlights

Every month, our customers provide invaluable expertise, launch innovative new products, and realise impressive commercial success. Here’s some highlights from this month...

A new customer network that helps our customers

The latest Zapnito network is ClickZ’s knowledge hub to provide expertise on marketing attribution. (Marketing attribution is the process that can help you determine the actions that helped customers before they proceeded to a purchase.) Not only a great example of how quickly a site can be brought to market - the site was launched in just a few weeks - the hub provides a host of information that will be valuable to our customers in marketing, such as this masterclass on paid search optimisation.

How to do video

Zapnito has video publishing built-in, with customers able to upload videos directly to their network or create them using our video panels feature that allows you to record videos with one or many participants. Therefore, it’s unsurprising that we frequently get asked how to ‘do’ video. What better than to give an example of a Zapnito customer that does video well? Check out Future Science Group’s video channel on RegMedNet for a range of great examples.

To be a scientist is to frequently brush with (career) death

A post proving popular on the Federation of European Biochemical Societies’ (FEBS) Network, is Brooke Morriswood’s colourful explanation of how scientists constantly hover on the verge of career extinction, from the risk of choosing the wrong PhD to the constant struggle to secure funding. With cultural comparisons as diverse as Die Hard and Month Python, it’s a great example of how experience shared with humour is a great combination that works really well on our customers’ networks.

Expertise Round-up

At Zapnito, our raison d'être is to enable the creation and sharing of expertise. That’s why we have rounded-up some of the month’s best expert commentary on issues affecting our customers.

Beyond Communities

Beyond Communities

Charles Thiede, Zapnito’s CEO on why Zapnito is more than just a community platform and why we are looking ‘beyond communities’ in 2018.

In Experts we Trust

A major new report into public trust in key institutions is of course a hot topic for Zapnito and our customers. Jon Beer, Zapnito’s Chief Technology Officer, explains the findings.

From beyond Zapnito

Truly essential reading on what’s really happening at Facebook

If you only read one thing this month, read this. Beautiful journalism from Wired on arguably the most important company of our times. Full of insights for publishers grappling with the platform, for anyone wondering whether Facebook is or isn’t a publisher, or indeed for anyone that uses Facebook. That’s everyone, then.

"It appears that Facebook did not, however, carefully think through the implications of becoming the dominant force in the news industry."

Digital subscriptions are back!

Once you’ve read that Facebook article (if you haven’t, read it now), you’ll be less surprised to learn that 70% of publishers “have evidence that readers’ willingness to pay for content has increased in the past year”. A report from Axel Springer is the latest sign that publishers are moving away from the platforms and revisiting perhaps more reliable business models, explains Digiday.

"Unlike ad revenue, where the big platforms like Facebook and Google take such a large proportion, digital readership revenues and the relationships we can develop with readers provide another revenue stream that helps us reduce dependency on platforms."

It’s all about data in 2018

Publishing Executive reminds us why 2018 will be all about data quality. And it’s not just because of GDPR (although it mainly is).

"GDPR raises the bar for opt-in data collection. While this will reduce the scale of data collected, it will dramatically raise the quality."
